Green Rallyer Tennis is designed for beginner level players ages 10-12. This class is designed to continue building an athletic base while teaching the fundamentals necessary to serve, rally and score using a rally/game based curriculum. Coaching is focused on developing sending and receiving skills, sound footwork and racquet mechanics. Prior to moving to the next level, the player will be able to demonstrate an overhead serve to the correct side of the court consistently, short rally with a partner with a simple recovery between shots, direct the ball away from an opponent and keep score.
Green 2 Tennis is designed for advanced beginner and intermediate level players ages 10-12. Green 2 focuses on stroke development, spin, height, depth, direction, pace of their shots, selecting the correct footwork pattern to strike the ball and tactics for singles and doubles. Players learn to develop strengths in their game and how to use them to their advantage.
At this stage of the pathway, Green 3 players have a strong desire to compete, set personal goals, play tournaments, team tennis and interscholastic competition and continues to enjoy the process as well as the love of the game. Players in Green 3 are capable of executing patterns of play, varying the spin, height, depth, direction, pace of their shots, selecting the correct footwork pattern to strike the ball and using their weapon to exploit weaknesses in their opponent's game. Each player will learn and experiment with varying styles of play, including serving and volleying, offensive, defensive and neutral tennis. Placement in this group requires approval from Director of Tennis.
Green 3 Match Play is required for participants registered for Green 3. Players will play from either 3:00-4:00pm or 4:00-5:00pm. Match play dates will be November 17, December 8, December 22, January 5, January 12 and January 19.
Yellow Rallyer Tennis is designed for beginner players ages 13-17. This class is designed to continue building an athletic base while teaching the fundamentals necessary to serve, rally and score using a rally/game based curriculum. Yellow Rallyer focuses on developing sending and receiving skills, sound footwork and racquet mechanics. Players learn how to properly position themselves to execute ground strokes and volleys with purpose.
Yellow 2 Tennis is designed for intermediate level players ages 13-17. This group is fundamentally sound in both movement and technique and are beginning to work on more advanced patterns of play. Yellow 2 focuses on stroke development and tactics for singles and doubles. Most participants play in tournaments, team tennis and interscholastic competition.
Green and Yellow Rallyer Friday Night Lights are for players new to both the orange ball and competitive tennis. Ideal for players in Orange Rallyer, each participant will learn how to keep score and play singles and doubles matches. Matches will be held on November 30, December 14 (7:30-8:30pm), January 4 and January 18.
Orange 2 and 3 Friday Night Lights is for Orange Ball players that have played some competitive tennis, but are still acclimating themselves to match play. Each participant will play singles and doubles matches and have an opportunity to synthesize what they have learned from previous competitions. Matches will be held on November 16, December 7 (7:30-8:30pm), December 21 and January 11.
Sign up for tennis and fitness instruction from leading coaches at College Park's world renown tennis center, JTCC. No previous experience is necessary. Classes will be held every Wednesday.
